Statement: Youth Leads UK on UK Race Riots

2 minute read

We are appalled and disappointed at the violent race riots unfolding on our streets which are targeting Muslims and ethnic minorities. No one deserves to be discriminated against or attacked for their beliefs. The scenes unfolding are horrific, and we are very concerned with the safety of all young people, of all backgrounds, across the UK.

At Youth Leads UK, we believe in uplifting and supporting young people. We believe in a community built on compassion, respect, and inclusion, and have no tolerance for discrimination, hate speech, or violence of any kind. In times of hardship and hatred, we must stand against it. Youth Leads UK are proud to work with young people from all backgrounds and religious beliefs. We all agree that these shameful riots have no place in our communities.

To all young people affected, you matter, and we are always here to support you.

Our CEO, Saeed Atcha MBE DL, said:

“As the CEO of Youth Leads UK & a community leader, I am deeply concerned by the recent disorder in our towns and cities, where Muslims, ethnic minorities, the police, and businesses are being targeted. This violent criminality has no place on our streets.

Many young people have told me that they do not feel safe going about their daily lives. I’m worried about their safety and the safety of all of our citizens. Thank you to the Police who are doing their best.

The scenes of disorder we have witnessed are shameful. While peaceful and orderly protest is a fundamental right, no one should have to worry about their safety on our streets.

To the young people who are joining protests to counter these extremists: show them the good in who you are. Demonstrate compassion and remind everyone that good people far outweigh those who seek to spread hatred and division. We are stronger together.”
