ACCOUNTING FOR THE FUTURE: YOUNG PEOPLE VISIT RSM UK

3 minute read

Youth Leads UK’s Leadership Programme members gained an insight into the accounting and consulting industry from Kevin Duffy, regional manager at RSM UK.

Kevin Duffy shared his journey as an accounting professional at RSM UK in an interactive talk with young people enrolled in the Youth Leads UK Leadership Programme.

‘Industry Insight Sessions’ are a vital aspect of the Leadership Programme. They allow young people to speak to industry professionals and learn more about a particular industry they may want to know about for their future careers.

Over 20 young people had the chance to speak to Kevin Duffy, RSM UK’s Regional Manager for the North West. Participants got the opportunity to develop a better understanding of accounting and consulting and the different pathways into the industry thanks to Kevin’s unique experience and expertise in this area.

Leadership Programme Participants got stuck in and learned more about Kevin’s journey – a highlight for young people was realising that they don’t need to study accounting specifically to get into the accounting field.

Kevin Duffy, Regional Manager for the North West at RSM UK, said:

“At RSM, we’re committed to supporting local talent and we’re continuing to invest in recruitment, development and training to ensure young people can thrive in their career, whatever their background or experience. Our partnership with Youth Leads UK reflects our focus on supporting young talent in the region, and I hope our recent Industry Insights session demonstrated the wide range of routes available to young people in accountancy, as well as the opportunity to build a very rewarding career at RSM.”

Amelia, 16, a Youth Leads UK Leadership Programme Participant, said:

“I feel more informed of the accountancy job, and for how office life feels. I also got a chance to learn that accountancy involves helping and saving the businesses of others, forming long-term bonds with the clients.”

Saeed Atcha MBE DL, CEO and Founder of Youth Leads UK, said:

“I believe young people deserve to have a wealth of opportunities to enrich their lives. The Industry Insights sessions were developed for this very purpose, and I am delighted that our young people have learnt a great deal from this last session. A big thank you to Kevin for taking the time to talk to our young people and joining us in making their lives more meaningful through skills enrichment.”

The Industry Insights sessions aim to enrich young people’s lives and honours the Youth Leads UK belief – that young people have the power to make a difference and deserve to have their voices amplified and listened to so they can make positive changes around them.
