Youth Leads UK CEO Receives Freedom of the City of London
Youth Leads UK is proud to announce that its CEO, Saeed Atcha MBE DL, has received the Freedom of the City of London in a ceremony held at Guildhall on Wednesday, 11 December 2024, marking his outstanding contributions to public life and his dedication to creating opportunities for young people.
This honour, steeped in tradition dating back to 1237, was originally granted to enable individuals to carry out their trade in the City of London. Today, it is awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to public life or achieved great success in their field.
Saeed, who became a Member of The Clothworkers’ Company earlier this year following his support for the Charity Governance Awards, was nominated for the Freedom in recognition of his outstanding work in the charitable sector.
At the ceremony, held in the historic Chamberlain’s Court, Saeed read aloud the Declaration of a Freeman before signing the official Register of Freemen.
Reflecting on the award, Saeed Atcha MBE DL, CEO of Youth Leads UK said:
“As a child in care, I could never have imagined a moment like this. Receiving the Freedom of the City of London is a reminder that your background doesn’t define your future, it’s what you do that matters. This honour is a celebration of possibility, heritage, and hope, and I hope it encourages others to pursue their goals.”
Saeed founded Youth Leads UK in Bolton, in response to a need for youth-led initiatives following the 2011 riots to empower young people and create opportunities for volunteering, skills development, and social action.
To date, the charity has supported more than 25,000 young people across Greater Manchester. Saeed’s leadership and personal experience of overcoming adversity have inspired his wider work, including serving on various boards and influencing youth policy at a national level. In 2019, he was awarded an MBE for services to young people and was the youngest person ever appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant of Greater Manchester.
This latest recognition reflects Saeed’s achievements and the transformative impact of Youth Leads UK. Under his leadership, the organisation continues to enrich the skills of young people, empower their potential and influence change.
