Youth Leads UK Unveils New Youth Leads Magazine

3 minute read

The Youth Leads UK youth-led publication ‘Xplode’ has changed its name after 13 years.

Youth Leads UK, an award-winning charity, is thrilled to announce the transformation of its long-standing youth-led magazine, formerly known as ‘Xplode,’ into the all-new Youth Leads Magazine.

Xplode’ magazine was the first project launched by founder and CEO Saeed Atcha MBE DL when the organisation was established in 2011. The aim was to have a space for young people to share their thoughts, experiences, and opinions to combat negative stereotypes about them in the press. The magazine has since evolved, with over 55,000 readers each year.

Youth Leads UK has a vision of a country where youth leads – where young people feel heard, included, and ready to make meaningful, positive changes around them. As part of its mission to empower youth voices nationwide, Youth Leads UK is expanding the magazine’s reach – the revamped publication now invites contributions from young people across the UK.

This exciting next chapter was announced at the charity’s latest Trailblazing Youth Graduation event, which had Royal Representative, Deputy Lieutenant of Greater Manchester Lisa Yam DL, and Deputy Mayor of Greater Manchester, Kate Green OBE, in attendance.

The first issue of the revamped magazine will be a double edition, highlighting young people’s social action efforts, fashion know-how, life experiences and more from the last 6 months.

Ruqayya, 19, Leadership Programme Alumni said:

“Being part of the Youth Leads Magazine is a deeply personal and exciting opportunity for me. Living with bipolar disorder and eczema, I’ve faced challenges that have shaped my perspective, and this platform allows me to share those experiences while uplifting others. As someone passionate about becoming a journalist, this is the perfect space for me to develop my skills, tell meaningful stories, and be part of a movement that amplifies young voices. It’s more than just writing — it’s about creating change and fostering understanding.”

More Pages, More Voices, More Power. Youth Leads Magazine

Farzana, 22, Vice Chair of the Youth Leads UK Youth Advisory Board said:

“I’d never had an opportunity to write for a magazine before this! I was able to write about something I’m passionate about, which will help young people navigate the challenges that come with growing up and approaching adulthood. I love that this magazine is accessible for all young people, you can download and read it online or get a printed copy! I also love that it is inclusive – it brings together contributions from so many young people from different backgrounds, ages, and ethnicities. Youth Leads Magazine makes us feel valued and empowered to speak up and make a difference.”
